MY PAST NEEDS NEW BEGINNING

Sometimes I wonder—how much of what I do is really my choice?

What I eat. What I drink. What I drive. Where I work. What I watch. What I say. Even the habits I know are hurting me.

Rules, expectations, advertisements, memories and routines surround us every day.

I am trying to grow. I am trying to change. And some days I fail.

I quit smoking for half a day. Other times I have quit for several days. Then somehow I find myself right back where I started.

Cigarettes seem to be everywhere. Real life. Movies. Books. Radio. Hobbies. Memories.

I am drawn to them. I enjoy them.

But I also know they are going to kill me.

PERIOD.

So why is something I know is harmful still so difficult to leave behind?

Maybe that question is bigger than cigarettes.

I think non-linear. Sometimes my thoughts feel like a giant ball of tangled fishing line. Somewhere inside that mess are two ends.

I keep looking for them.

Every once in a while, I loosen another knot.

I am also a man of limited friends, and I actually like it that way. Too many friends can mean too many problems. I am not naturally social, although I have learned how to play the part when I need to.

Maybe you have learned to play a part too.

It is not that I hate anyone.

It is not that I hate society.

It is not that I hate everything around me.

I just feel trapped sometimes.

And I am beginning to understand something important:

I don't want to erase my past.

I don't need to blame someone for it.

I simply don't want my past to dictate my future.

For now, I will keep living in the world as it is while trying to understand where I fit within it.

And I will keep working on that tangled fishing line.

One knot at a time.

Maybe someday I will finally find those two ends.

Maybe this makes sense to you. Maybe it doesn't.

Either way, look at your own tangled fishing line.

What are you still holding onto?

My past needs a new beginning.

Maybe yours does too.

Peace of MIND, BODY, AND SOUL. ✌️

THE RIPPLE EFFECT

WHEN YOU BEGIN CARING FOR YOURSELF

August 11, 2026

For much of my life, I never thought seriously about my appearance.

In my twenties and thirties, I cared a little more. I was single and playing the field. After I got married, however, I became comfortable. Maybe too comfortable. I gained weight, stopped paying attention to my appearance, and eventually stopped taking proper care of myself.

Then diabetes took something extremely important from me: my sight.

That changed my mindset.

I began caring for myself—not because I wanted attention from strangers, but because I finally understood that my health affected more than me.

When we neglect ourselves, the consequences ripple outward. The people who love us worry. They help us through doctor visits, treatments, fear, and uncertainty. Our pain becomes part of their lives, too.

But positive change creates ripples as well.

Every healthier meal, medical appointment, short walk, and better decision tells the people around us that we are trying. It shows them that their love matters—and that we intend to remain present in their lives.

My wife tells me she still finds me attractive. Could she be lying?

YES!

And I am good with that.

I no longer need the entire world to approve of how I look. Her opinion is the one that matters most. But caring for myself is no longer only about appearance. It is about protecting our time together.

Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is one way of caring for everyone who cares about you.

THE WEEKLY RIPPLE

Do one thing for your health today—not because someone is watching, but because someone would miss you if you were gone.

Then askyourself:

Who else is affected when I choose to take better care of myself?

One healthier choice may feel small, but its ripple can reach every person who loves you.

Peace ✌️
